For this assignment, you will select an academic article, summarize and analyze it, and discuss how that article might affect your future teaching. No cover sheet is necessary. Just have your name and class in the upper right-hand corner. Proper grammar and formatting are expected.
First, select an article of your choice from a professional journal in the field of second language acquisition and/or the teaching of English as a second language. Choose something relevant to your focus or experiences. There is a database of articles provided to you, but you may choose articles from other sources as long as they are relevant and academic.
Your first paragraph should be a summary of the paper, including it’s conclusions. I should be able to read your first paragraph and know what the entire article is about and what it concludes.
Next, spend a paragraph discussing the author’s main point. What is the purpose of the paper? What do they want you to learn?
After that opening, the majority of your paper should be a discussion of how the contents of the paper will impact or affect your future teaching. What practices that the paper puts forward will you adopt? Why or why not?
Lastly, you must include a complete Reference Citation, using APA format. For example:
Kernis, M. H. (1993). There’s more to self-esteem than whether it is high or low. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 65, 1190-1204.
Your paper should be a minimum of 2-3 double-spaced pages, submitted to Dropbox by Sunday (11:59 pm).
